REI Co-op Studios Presents: Canary: Conversations about Coming Together in Outdoor Recreation

In the latest original video from REI Co-op Studios, four inspiring women of color gather to explore the barriers they’ve faced in outdoor recreation and the solutions they envision for a more inclusive future.

As a woman of color who enjoys spending time outdoors, I have often felt like an outsider. I don’t see many people who look like me represented in the media or in leadership positions in the outdoor industry. This can make it difficult to feel like I belong.

That’s why I was so excited to watch REI Co-op Studios’ latest original video, Canary: Conversations about Coming Together in Outdoor Recreation. The film features four inspiring women of color who are working to break down barriers and create a more inclusive outdoor community.

The film opens with a group of women sitting around a campfire, sharing their experiences of being outdoors. They talk about the challenges they’ve faced, such as racism, sexism, and lack of representation. But they also talk about the joy and freedom they find in nature.

One of the women, Dr. Carolyn Finney, is a conservationist and author. She says, .
